SACRAMENTO, Calif. (March 19, 2026) - Cal North is pleased to announce a partnership with California North Referee Association (CNRA) to expand opportunities for the Game Day Facilitator Program (GDF) in 2026. This program makes it possible for volunteers to help facilitate recreational matches when a referee is not available.
Starting with the Spring 2026 league season, there will be two pathways for preparing volunteers to serve in this role:
6-hour In-Person Tutorial
- 6-hour in-person session that provides an in-depth review of the Laws of the Game
- In-person session venue and logistics organized by the hosting club
Web-Based Tutorial
- 1-hour web-based session that provides an overview of the basics for facilitating a match, including basic fouls, restarts and in-game procedures
- Webinars hosted by CNRA every other Thursday at 7pm during the season to prepare for the coming weekend and the dates are: 4/2/2026 and 4/16/2026. Registration Link
Both pathways require participants 18 years of age and older to pass a formal background check provided by Cal North. https://www.calnorth.org/backgroundcheck
Participating clubs will be provided with solutions for implementing the GDF Program. In addition to the tutorials listed above, member organizations will be provided with FAQs, and may assist with:
- GDF pinny to wear during games
- Whistles and disinfecting wipes
- A one-sheet guide with pre- and post-game instructions, created in consultation with the club.
As part of our partnership with CNRA, I’m pleased to introduce Devlin Creighton (CNRA’s Strategic Partnerships Manager). Devlin will be overseeing the GDF Program and will serve as your primary point of contact for any questions, interest, or participation related to the program. You are encouraged to connect with Devlin directly at dcreighton@cnra.net
