DANVILLE, Calif. (December 17, 2023) - The journey for the San Jose Rush 14B Blue began the second weekend of June this summer. The Rush boys won the District 2 Cup in Morgan Hill, granting them FREE & Automatic entry to the upcoming Cal North State Cup.
However; it was a difficult road for them to reach this point.
At District 2 Cup the San Jose Rush 14B Blue lost their opening game against Santa Clara SC Lions 3-1. They got back on track beating MVLA 7-1 and Almaden FC by an astonishing 13-0 scoreline to finish up group stage.
They entered the semifinals as the wildcard and met a familiar opponent in Santa Clara SC Lions, the same team they lost to at the beginning of District Cup.
The second encounter leaned towards San Jose Rush's favor, beating the Lions by an impressive 5-1 score.
In the District 2 Cup Final they met Silicon Valley Eagles PSG, a team that had finished top of their group with 7 points and had to get past Sentinels SC in the semis to reach the Final.
San Jose Rush claimed victory over Silicon Valley Eagles PSG in a close game that went to penalty kicks.
"It was such a battle to stay in there," said Coach Angelo Alponte. "We lost the first game, then won the next two, then had to win the wildcard, and then to win District 2 in penalties. It's a movie."
That movie-like triumph brought them here, to the Cal North State Cup in mid-December.
"And then finally being here at State Cup, it's a privilege and an honor to be here," he added.
At State Cup they beat District 3/4 Cup Champions-Pittsburg Youth Soccer Club, ALBION SC Silicon Valley East Bay and fellow District Cup 2 Finalists-Silicon Valley Eagles PSG.
The 2023-2024 Cal North State Cup for all U13-U19 age groups will be taking place on April 13-14, 2024 at Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Center in Morgan Hill, California.
