SACRAMENTO, CA (Dec. 16, 2022) — Cal North is deeply saddened to inform you that District 8 Commissioner, Shirley Thompson, passed away in her sleep earlier this morning. As many of you know, she had been suffering from heart complications for some time now and was hospitalized again in November. Shirley underwent surgery for her heart valve in January of this year.
Shirley had been a volunteer District 8 Commissioner for over 4 years, but also served as secretary and was on many committees for a number of years prior to being elected in 2018. Her passion and love for the game was unmeasured and did not go unnoticed. We remember her involvement with the District 8 TOPSoccer Program and pride she took in the Pumpkinfest year after year. Shirley also went above and beyond for the game by helping with events in other districts, for example helping with team check-in at the Cinco De Mayo Tournament in District 7 in May of this year.
We are deeply saddened for Shirley's passing. May her close family members, friends and colleagues find relief that her passing was peaceful and painless.
