Important update to Assembly Bill 310 (The Nevaeh Youth Sports Safety Act)

      SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Tuesday, July 8, 2025) We want to inform you of an important update to Assembly Bill 310 (The Nevaeh Youth Sports Safety Act) that impacts all youth sports organizations in California.

      As of July 7, 2025, the California Legislature has amended AB 310 to adjust key implementation deadlines related to athlete safety protocols:

      What’s Changing:
      AED Access Requirement Delayed to January 1, 2028
      Youth sports organizations must ensure that an automated external defibrillator (AED) is available during all official practices and matches by this date.

      CPR/AED Certification Required for Coaches by January 1, 2027
      All coaches must complete and maintain certification in CPR and AED use, with recertification required every two years. Training may be completed in person or online through an accredited organization.

      Emergency Response Plan Required by January 1, 2027
      Each organization must implement a written emergency cardiac response plan, including:
      - AED locations and usage protocols
      - Defined roles for coaches, staff, athletes, and bystanders
      - Annual review with all staff
      - Communication to parents and guardians
      - AED location announcements at all official matches 

      What You Should Do Now:
      • Begin planning for staff training and emergency response procedures
      • Budget for AED acquisition, maintenance, and testing ahead of the 2028 deadline
      • Familiarize yourself with the full text of the amended bill and consult your organization’s legal or risk management advisors
