BOISE, ID (June 23, 2022) - Five teams move on to quarterfinals at the 2022 US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships taking place in Boise, Idaho.

After three days of competition at Far West Regional Championships, Pajaro Valley United 06G (16U Girls), East Bay United Bay Oaks 05G Gold (17U Girls), Santa Clara Sporting 09B Green (13U Boys), San Jose Rush 06B Select (16U Boys) and Santa Clara Sporting 03/04B Green (19U Boys) have advanced out of group stage and will continue their quest for a Regional Championship tomorrow.

Pajaro Valley United 06G (16U Girls) were drawn into one of the toughest groups of the age group. In their first game, they were able to comeback from a 1-0 deficit and beat Alaska Rush (AK) 3-1. Their second game they pulled off a 2-2 draw against NVSC Breakaway (CA-N) in an always entertaining game between Cal South vs Cal North and in their third group stage match they also came back from a 2-0 score at halftime to beat Eastside Timbers (OR) by a score of 4-3. With that last minute win, they were able to secure a spot in quarterfinals. If there is one thing we learned about this PV United team is their ability to comeback from any scoreline, as they found themselves down in all three group stage games and managed to either win or tie.

East Bay United Bay Oaks 05G Gold (17U Girls) started the tournament with a 3-2 loss to Seattle United (WA), but have been on a roll since then. They went on to beat Vegas United SC (NV) in a close 1-0 game on and then defeated Missoula Strikers (MT) by a convincing 4-0 scoreline to close out group play. After three games, Bracket A had three teams with six points, East Bay United Bay Oaks 05G Gold being one of them along with Seattle United (WA) and Vegas United (NV). However; after all tiebreakers were handled, East Bay United Bay Oaks finished first, proving why every goal counts in these type of tournaments. The two clean sheets and the 4-0 win were important for them to get better seeding heading into quarters.

Santa Clara 09B Green (13U Boys) got off to a hot start with a 8-0 win over Anchorage Timbers (AK) in game one. Their second game against Eugene Timbers (OR) proved to be the one that would give them leverage to move on as second place in group, as they defeated Oregon in a close 1-0 match. Heading into their third and final group stage game, Sporting had six points and Xplosion SC (CA-S) had four points, it was known that both teams were already moving on. The third game was important to decided seeding, where unfortunately Sporting lost 2-0 dropping them to a second place finish of Bracket A.

San Jose Rush 06B Select (16U Boys) qualified to quarterfinals after day two. In their first game they defeated CV Stars (AZ) in a thrilling 3-2 win where they started losing, but managed to comeback. In their second game they showed a solid defensive performance and effective attack getting a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Cook Inlet SC(AK). For their third group stage game against Sparta United (UT) they ran into a solid team and a favorite to win it all. A 5-1 scoreline does not reflect how the game went, but the Utah-based team certainly outperformed San Jose Rush, who will take a lot from that game.

Santa Clara Sporting 03/04B Green (19U Boys) found themselves in a "win and you're in" scenario heading into their third group game. After a 2-2 draw against Westside Timbers (OR) in their first game and a second scoreless result against Boise Timbers (ID), they had to beat New Mexico Rush (NM) in their third game. At the time, New Mexico Rush was sitting in first place of Bracket B. Sporting 03/04 Green won 2-0 and secured a spot in quarterfinals. After all group games were played both Sporting and Boise Timbers (ID) were tied with five points each and every other tie-breaking category, leading to a penalty shootout to determine seeding. The shootout took place this morning, with Sporting winning 4-3 and moving on as first in group.
