New tournament opens competition to teams from every Cal North district, with the champion earning automatic, free entry into Cal North State Cup
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Cal North is launching the Cal North Open Cup, a new tournament designed to bring teams from across Northern California together for an open, competitive pathway to the Cal North State Cup.
Unlike a traditional district-specific competition, the Cal North Open Cup will be open to eligible teams from any Cal North district, any U.S. Soccer affiliation, creating an opportunity for clubs and teams from throughout the association's footprint to compete on one stage.

The Cal North Open Cup Champion will receive automatic, free entry into the Cal North State Cup, eliminating the additional State Cup entry fee and providing a direct pathway from the Open Cup to one of Cal North's premier competitions.
“The Cal North Open Cup is about creating opportunity,” said Devon Yoakam, Cal North Director of Competitions & Business Operations. "We want teams from across Northern California to have the opportunity to compete against one another, and we're excited to create a pathway where a team can enter the Open Cup, win the championship and earn its place in State Cup.”
The Open Cup represents Cal North's continued effort to expand competitive opportunities while connecting the association's districts, clubs and players.

Teams from across the Cal North footprint will be invited to participate, creating a tournament environment that brings together clubs and players who may not otherwise compete against one another during the season.
The tournament will provide:
• Open eligibility across Cal North districts
• Competitive tournament play
• A championship opportunity
• Automatic entry into Cal North State Cup for the Open Cup Champion
• Free State Cup entry for the qualifying Champion
• An opportunity for clubs to compete beyond their traditional district footprint
The Cal North Open Cup also creates a new platform for clubs looking to challenge themselves against teams from different parts of Northern California.
From the Bay Area to Sacramento, the Central Valley and beyond, the Open Cup brings the Cal North soccer community together on one field.
And ultimately, one team walks away with a championship — and a place in the Cal North State Cup.
