TOPSoccer Pumpkinfest 2013
TOPsoccer, The Outreach Program for Soccer, is a league designed for children starting at the age of four with physical and/or mental disabilities. The object of TOPSoccer is player development, not competition and the teams are grouped by skill, not age, so that the players can move at their own speed as opposed to being forced to move up for the sake of their age.
Every year, TOPSoccer in Tracy, CA puts on an event called PumpkinFest. Pumpkinfest is an event in which a soccer tournament is combined with a BBQ for all those who wish to attend and watch these children play some soccer.
At this year’s event, there were around 160 children participating, with an all time high of 500 people being served at the BBQ. It was a great day filled with soccer, laughter and some delicious burgers, with many people volunteering to make it possible.
Shirley Thompson, the President of the Tracy Youth Soccer League, sends a big thank you to all those that helped and can’t wait to see the program grow in years to come.
