Opening matches began Monday, June 16 at the New Mexico Tournament Soccer Complex in Albuquerque, N.M.  The top 237 US Youth Soccer boys and girls teams from the 14 State Associations that make up US Youth Soccer Region IV compete for the regional title. States represented including host, New Mexico, are Alaska, Arizona, California North, California South, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

Teams earned their trip to the Far West Regional Championships by winning their respective State Championship, the US Youth Soccer Far West Regional League; California Regional League, Northern Division, or Desert Premier sub division, or selected as a wild card entry. Each team is hoping to advance to the knockout stage and on to the National Championship Series!

Cal North teams earned their trip to Far West Regionals by winning the Cal North State Cup or the California Regional League. To be eligible for Regionals teams must also participate in a state association sanctioned playing league; CRL, CCSL, or district playing league and have played in the State Cup in their home State Association. Day One at Regionals saw the Cal North teams finish with eight (8) wins, four (4) draws, and seven (7) losses.  Gusty winds up to 40 mph played havoc all day as teams learned to adapt to the wind. The U-17 Girls Juventus Avanza lead the way with a commanding 4-0 win over BSC Portland 96 Black. While the U-13 Boys San Jose Earthquakes Pre-Academy 01 also started strong with a 3-0 win over Colorado United White. As day one came to a close U-14 Girls Santa Clara Sporting missed a last minute PK and ended up tying Cal South 1-1 in the last match of the day. Exciting finish to an excellent day of soccer!
