What Is The Junior Cup Festival?

Cal North Junior Cup Festival is an event established to introduce teams of all levels to the Cal North Cup Series. The Festival operates in a format similar to the other Cal North Cups but the difference is that teams from both Cal North and other affiliated organizations may enter the U10 Founders’ Cup division for recreational teams, the Association Cup for entry-to-mid-level competitive teams, or State Cup for the mid-to –top level competitive teams.

Who is eligible to attend the Cal North Junior Cup Festival?

Any Cal North registered team or team registered with another US Soccer affiliated organization may apply to participate in the Junior Cup Festival.  Only teams that are defined as Recreational and compete in a playing league for recreational teams are eligible to apply Founders’ Cup.  Unless granted a specific exception by their District Commissioner in accordance with Founders’ Cup rules, teams and/or players that participated in Competitive playing leagues and/or tournaments are not eligible for Founders’ Cup. Players who were rostered on a Competitive-level team during the season are NOT eligible to participate on a Founder’s Cup team.  Association Cup is open ONLY to teams and players that participated in a playing league for Silver Elite, Silver, Bronze, Copper or Recreational teams. Teams and/or players that participated in California Regional League, Premier or Gold divisions of Cal North sanctioned playing leagues are not eligible for Association Cup.  State Cup is open to Competitive and Recreational teams and players but is recommended for teams that played in the California Regional League or a Premier or Gold level playing league. State Cup is the only Cal North Cup in which last season’s State Cup quarterfinalists are eligible to compete.

When does the Junior Cup Festival take place?

The Junior Cup Festival calendar can be located on the Junior Cup Festival page of the Cal North website.  All dates are subject to change for circumstances beyond the control of the Cup organizers.  Junior Cup Festival takes place in December over the course of two weekends.

What is the format of the Cal North Junior Cup Festival?

Member and non-member teams are first designated to the cup for which they were accepted.  They are then placed into age group/ gender brackets for that cup by modified blind draw.  During the preliminary round play on the first weekend of cup, teams will play round-robin against the other teams in the bracket.  On the round-robin weekend teams will have one or two games on Saturday and one or two games on Sunday.  Teams qualify to advance to the single elimination rounds either as bracket winners or as a second place team from a bracket with a designated "wild card".  Teams advancing to the single elimination rounds will play "knock out" games where the winning teams advance to the following round of play and the losing team is eliminated from the competition.  The winning team will continue to advance from each single elimination match. Quarter finals, semifinals and championships are scheduled over the course of the subsequent weekend of the competition.  The scheduling of the single elimination round games will be based on the number of brackets. Teams play 8 v 8 games with all games taking place over a two-weekend time frame.   In the event of weather-related field cancellations, the games may be postponed to alternate weekends or sometimes relocated to venues where the conditions allow play to continue.

Where are the Cal North Junior Cup Festival games held?

For the 2012-2013 season, we plan to hold Junior Cup Festival at the Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Center.  Keep in mind that weather and other unforeseen factors can affect scheduling.

The Reserve Pool entry fee is $650 for Cal North member teams and $750 for non-member teams applying after the deadline.

What are the dates/deadlines associated with attending Cal North Junior Cup Festival?

What is the roster submittal requirement?

GOTSOCCER ROSTERS ARE NOT USED FOR THE CUP APPLICATION PROCESS OR ACCEPTED AT ANY TIME THROUGHOUT JR CUP FESTIVAL. ONLY THE OFFICIAL CYSA CAL NORTH ROSTER IS ACCEPTED FOR CAL NORTH TEAMS AND FOR OTHER TEAMS, THE OFFICIAL ROSTER ISSUED BY THEIR SANCTIONING ORGANIZATION. Cal North teams’ official team rosters must be approved in the Cal North registration database by the team’s District Registrar by 11/1/13.  If the team roster has a message at the bottom indicating the team is not approved for travel or that there is a player whose birth date has not been confirmed or there is a player without an eligibility date, the message must be cleared by the District Registrar in order to validate the roster. Draft rosters are not acceptable. If the team does not already have a roster that has been authorized by the District Registrar they should email their league registrar or District Registrar well in advance for the specific timelines and deadlines that must be met in order to obtain an approved roster by the November 1st deadline This will give the registrars adequate time to complete the process for approving and issuing team credentials.

Teams registered with other affiliated organizations must submit a roster by scan/email or hard copy to the Cal North office by the 11/1/13 deadline.  Rosters can be scanned /emailed to or mailed to 1040 Serpentine Lane #201, Pleasanton CA 94566

Can I make changes to my roster before attending Junior Cup Festival?

Teams can continue to make roster changes after they apply to a Cal North Cup.  The team roster "freezes" at the time the team checks in with Cal North Cup staff before their first game of the Junior Cup Festival, however during the season Cal North allows up to 5 inter league transfers per team (players moving from one league’s roster to another league’s roster), an unlimited number of intra league transfers (players moving from one roster to another within the same league and considered to be a "club pass") and an unlimited number of added players (players not on a Cal North roster this season.  Although there is no freeze date for adding or deleting registered team officials (coaches, assistant coaches, managers, etc.) all player movement on and off the roster will stop on the freeze date. Throughout all roster changes, a team must retain a core of 9 players from their league roster to the Cup roster.  Teams may have a maximum of 18 rostered players.  Teams should contact their league registrars for guidance regarding roster changes and/or the timeline for submitting roster changes to the league and district prior to the roster freeze deadline.

Interested in Participating?

If your team is interested in applying to Cal North Junior Cup Festival first confirm that you have enough players who are committed to participate on all of the dates that are noted on the Cup calendar.  If not, you may want to consider transferring or adding players to supplement the roster.  Keep in mind you will not be able to make roster changes after the freeze date and that Junior Cup Festival rules dictate that a minimum of nine (9) players from the team’s roster from league play must carry over to the Junior Cup Festival roster.
