Another question in the survey dealt with our current team classification system (D1, D3, D4, etc). Last year the CCSL
introduced the concept of teams playing at the level of their ability rather than forcing them to play at a level designated by an arbitrary label placed on them prior to the season. This new system has multiple levels on the Comp side of things instead of just the two currently in use.
So, we posed the following question: "6. CYSA is considering changing our current Team Classification system. Under the proposed system Division 1/3/4/5 would be eliminated and replaced with Comp and Rec. Rec would encompass the current Division 4 and 5 teams. The new Comp division would be for any team that was formed via a draft or tryout (what is now Division 1 and 3). With Comp, leagues and tournaments would use the Gold, Silver, Bronze, etc introduced last year in the CCSL allowing all teams to play at the level of their ability - not at an arbitrary two level system designation. Would your league be in favor of this?".
Your answers spoke volumes:
- 81.1% said "Yes, please change to the system implemented by CCSL..."
- 18.9% said they like the current system
An over 4 to 1 ratio for change! Well, listen CYSA did. In June, the Board of Directors voted to move to the system introduced by the CCSL statewide and do away with the D1, D4 types of labels. Going forward next year, there will be only Comp and Rec. Rec is pretty obvious. On the Comp side there will have to be massive changes to our tournaments, cups and registration processes and those are going on as I type this. At the Registration Committee meeting in July we will be discussing the changes needed to the LeagueOne software to implement. I think we are lucky ones, as the changes aren't too bad. Mainly some labels will change and we will have to rewrite all the team approval rules.
