There were three questions on the survey dealing with background checks being performed on coaches/volunteers. While not totally a registration question, we registrars are often the ones tasked with managing this part of the process. Your answers to the questions make it obvious that you would like CYSA to take a leadership position in this area and help the leagues get this implemented.
"8. Is your league/club performing background checks on your coaches and other officials?"
To which you said:
- 52.4% are not performing background checks
- 47.6% are doing background checks
"9. Is your league/club interested in having CYSA set minimum criteria for background checks and/or publish a list of preferred vendors?"
Your answers:
- 67.1% said yes
- 32.9% said no
"10. Do you feel it would be of value to your club or league if CYSA were to perform and manage the background check process?"
You spoke and said:
- 69.5% said that they were interested in CYSA taking on the task of performing background checks
- 30.5% were not interested in CYSA being involved
The CYSA 1st Vice Chairman and the Board of Directors will be looking into the background check issue as we move forward. It is pretty clear that there is an interest for CYSA to be involved at some level.
